Sam Biddle and Jesus Diaz had axes to grind and were more than willing to use Gizmodo's clickbait business strategy to further their own ends. Ty at least has some familiarity with weapons systems and how they're procured.

The whole article is written for the sole purpose of bashing Russia. How do you write an article about an island and make no reference to its location? Russia annexed Crimea in a conflict with Ukraine so it must've annexed this island in a similar fashion. Futhermore it says that Russia deployed forces to the island. The island is so small there are malls in North America bigger than that.

I come to Jalopnik for cars but happen to stumbled onto occasional FA article shared to the FP and from what I've seen I am not impressed. Most of the stuff I read sounded like the typical journalist writing made to attract as many hits as possible by omitting relevant info and using scary words.

It's not inaccurate but it's also misleading like a typical journalist article written to attract attention.

The size of the island is irrelevant. Its location is extremely relevant. It's exactly what China is doing, as they occupy tiny, insignificant islands so they can claim the fishing rights and eventually all the water around it. That includes all the fish, all the oil and natural gas, and eventually the territory itself. I believe Russia is making a play for the Arctic, and this is an early step.

I don't mind that Tyler Rogoway has a point of view. Even when it's strong it's not overbearing. FA pieces are researched, informative, and thought-provoking. FA is one of the best reasons to show up.
